Abrasions caused by dust

Today, I’d like to talk about abrasions caused by dust.

“Dust-induced abrasions” is read as “funjin sakkashō.” As the name suggests, this condition refers to inflammation of the eyes, nose, and skin caused by fine dust particles such as yellow sand and PM2.5, as well as pollen.

These symptoms can occur even if you don’t have an allergy to cedar or cypress pollen, like with hay fever. They vary widely and include a runny nose, a scratchy throat, sneezing, itchy eyes, rough skin, and itchy skin. These symptoms are caused by fine dust particles coming into direct contact with the skin or getting trapped inside clothing, where they rub against the skin.
Imagine gently rubbing your skin with fine sandpaper or sprinkling pepper on your skin and rubbing it in.

Home Care

  • Rinse thoroughly with the shower before washing your body or hair
  • Drink water frequently to keep your throat moist
  • Shake out your clothes at the entrance or dry them indoors to prevent bringing dust into the house
